A grandfather and father goes missing for a week. David La Vau went off the road and plunged 200 feet into ravine. His children did not give up hope when he didn't return for nearly a week. They did some detective work and back tracked their father's steps. The last time he used his debt card was at a grocery store and that is where they received their lead and traveled his path. They stopped at every ravine screaming their father's name and they heard him answer back with "help, help." The 67-year-old went off the road into a ravine on a mountain road near Angeles National Forest. The car was destroyed and it is a miracle that he survived. He has a few broken bones, but no life threatening injuries.

A woman and her horse saves a boy from being a attack by a Grizzly bear.  A wrangler (Erin Bolster) was taking a group of eight clients out on a horse ride in National Forest between West Glacier and Hungry Horse Mountain, which included a 8-year-old boy. Bolster was riding "Tonk" a large burly horse 18 hands high. Bolster has years of experience and has been riding since she was four. It was the peak of the season for bear sightings daily. The wranglers knew the spots where the bears were and the bears usually run away when they see the horses. The trail ride was going great until they came around a corner and her horse refused to move. A deer came out of the brush and was being chased by a grizzly bear and all the horses panicked.  Everyone grabbed the horn of their saddles in order to hang on to their frightened horse. Seven of the horses ran to the trial that would lead them back to the barn, but the one carrying the 8-year-old boy headed in the path of the grizzly. The grizzly then started to chase the horse and boy and now they became its prey. The boy's father's horse would not follow and continued towards the barn. Bolster put her heels into Tonk's ribs and they bolted towards the boy and his horse. The boy was bent over his horse holding onto the horse's neck so his head would not hit the heavily forested trees. The bear was growling and snarling and completely focused on the boy and the horse. Bolster knew the only way to stop the bear from attacking was to come face to face with the bear. She had no hesitation she was not going to allow the boy to get hurt and her horse was following her lead.  The horse went at the bear with its boulder size hooves and fire boldness and the bear came within 10 feet before it ran to one side. At this time the boy fell off his horse and the bear attempted to go after the boy again, but Bolster and Tonk approached him again, it took three times to finally get the bear to leave. Bolster picked up the shocked boy and put him on Tonk and rode back on the trail, which was a 10 minute ride.  Bolster did not begin to shake until she was back with the others and at a safe distance away from the bear. Tonk was also wet with sweat and shaking. Bolster was so proud and connected to Tonk that she bought him.

Labor Day

Labor Day, is a celebration for workers and their achievements. During the Industrial Revolution (1800's) in the United States the average American worked 12 hours per day and 7 days a week. Even children in some states worked as young as 5 years-old. People of all ages and the poor and immigrants were exposed to unsafe working conditions. Labor unions occurred in the 18th century and they became vocal and protested about work conditions and hours worked. This caused many protests and even riots. On September 5, 1882, 10,000 workers did not receive pay and took time off to march from City Hall to Union Square in New York City becoming the first Labor Day Parade for the "workingmen's holiday." Celebrated the first Monday in September. Congress did not make it an official holiday until 12 years later. On June 26, 1894 the Railroad Union, led by Eugene V. Debs, called for a boycott on all Pullman railway cars, disabling railroad traffic nationwide. To stop the strike the federal government let loose troops to Chicago, creating waves of riots that killed more than a dozen workers. Congress to make peace with the workers made the holiday legal in the District of Columbia and the other territories.

Two little girls steal a goat from a petting zoo in their pajamas in Minnesota. The two stepsisters ages 6 and 7  conspired to take the goat from a petting zoo they recently visited. In their pajamas and leash they took the goat and had it living in their closet. They would take it out for late night walks and a Mankato police officer stopped them. They told her that the "goat was living in their closet and that their dad didn't know about it, but their mom did." The police officer wasn't convinced about the story so she walked them home and that is when the parents said that "they had attended a birthday party at the petting zoo earlier that day and that is probably when the girls decided to take the goat."

What's in The News Today

A Colorado logger cuts off his toes when a six-ton trailer falls on him. Jon Hutt was working alone when the trailer fell on him. He was in severe pain and no one could hear his cries. He had a pocket knife and started to cut his toes off in order to free himself. He said "it hurt so bad that he would cut and then stop for a while." He freed himself and wrapped his foot with his shirt and drove for help. He drove 175 miles and was finally in cell phone range. A ambulance met him and took him to the hospital. The doctors were not able to reattach his toes, due to the toes being too mangled.
