A baby inherits a deadly cancer from her mother. The nine-month old baby received the cancer from her mother while she was in her womb. Addison Cox lives with her father in Phoenix, Arizona and was born with stage four melanoma. She has cancer in her brain, shoulder, lungs, liver, leg and the back of her tongue. Her father (James Cox) said "she is the happiest baby and shows no signs of pain and she is a fighter just like her mother." Her mother died earlier this month and thought that she beat the cancer and became pregnant with Addison. She thought the symptoms she was experiencing was from pregnancy until she had a seizure. Addison is the only ninth case of inheriting cancer from her mother. She is being treated with an experimental drug. Because the drug is experimental it's not covered by her insurance. Cox's co-workers have chipped  in to help pay for her treatment.

The History of the Academy Awards

The first Academy Award ceremony was on May 16, 1929, at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. Two hundred people attended and dinner was served at the hotel's Blossom Room. The tickets cost $5 and the evening was filled with speeches. The Academy's President Douglas Fairbanks handed out statuettes. There was no suspense about who was getting an award it was announced three months prior. The following year the academy decided to keep it a secret until the evening of the awards. The academy did give the results to the newspaper and it wasn't suppose to be printed until the 11p.m. edition, but the Los Angeles Times broke the agreement and printed the winners in the evening edition. The academy changed protocol call again in 1941, with a sealed envelope that is still used today (2012). The 16th ceremony was held at the Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood, Ca in 1942.

The academy has nearly 6,000 members that vote for the Oscars by secret ballot. The awards are up to 25 categories. The members select winners from five nominees in each category. Members of the academy are also put in a specific category. For instance only film editors can nominate for the Achievement in Film Editing award. Best picture award is selected by the entire academy.

Tonight's award will be the 84th Annual Academy Awards and Billy Crystal will be hosting it. Tonight's award ceremony will be held at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood, Ca. Wolfgang Puck does all the catering and events that are held at the Kodak Theater. Wolf Gang Puck will feature more than 50 dishes at the Governor's Ball that is held after the award ceremony. He will also be featuring 3D chocolate Oscar.

Where do children go when their immune system is compromised. Many children have battled cancer and other illnesses that leave them susceptible to germs. One of the  parents of a sick child became aware while in the hospital when her daughter was being treated there was an area for kids to socialize. Nancy Zuch decided to open the Morgan Center and named after her daughter who was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 2. Her daughter is now 13 and cancer free. Zuch remembered how difficult it was when Morgan had to be isolated from other children for the fear of becoming sick from them. The Morgan Center was opened in 2003 and has provided a free preschool for 150 children. The center looks like any other preschool. The differences are that the children need to sanitize their hands throughout the day and have their own individualized supplies: glue, crayon, scissors, Play-Doh, etc. The center is completely ran on  private donations and fundraisers and the students are referred by local hospital. Parents have made friends with each other and they have become a support team for one and another. The Morgan Center is located in Hicksville, New York. The history of Valentine's Day

On February 14 about 278 A.D. a priest in Rome was executed by Emperor Claudius II. Claudius banned marriages and engagements because he couldn't get men to join the military. Claudius blamed women for the reason men didn't join the military because they didn't want to leave their wives and families. Priest Valentine secretly married the young lovers.
When Claudius found out about what Valentine did he arrested him and dragged him to the Perfect of Rome. Valentine was condemned to be beaten with clubs and to have his head cut off. The sentence of his death did occur on February 14th, in or about the year 270. While in jail St. Valentine left a farewell note for one of the jailer's daughter who became his friend, and signed the note "From Your Valentine."

Eventually February 14th, became the date for lovers with exchanges of notes, poems, gifts and flowers.

What is Groundhog days

Groundhog's day stemmed from a Christian Belief. The tradition was Candlemas Day and clergy would bless and give out candles for the winter. The candles represented how long and cold the winter was going to be. The Germans broaden the holiday by adding hedgehogs. German settlers brought the tradition to Pennsylvania and changed it to groundhogs.  The first day that it was celebrated in the United States was in 1887, in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. If the groundhog comes out of his hole and sees its shadow then their is 6 weeks more of winter; no shadow means an early shadow.

The groundhog did see his shadow so that means 6 more weeks of winter, of course it doesn't matter in Los Angeles where it's already 70 degrees.
