What's in The News Today

What is Lent

Lent last for 40 days and ends on Palm Sunday.  After Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist the heavens opened up and Jesus was lead into the desert by the Spirit. Jesus was in the desert for 40 days and nights without any food and was tempted by the devil. Jesus was tested and did not fall victim to the devil.  During this time of 'Lent' prayer for the rejoice of Jesus our Savior who was risen from the dead on Easter.   (Matthew 4:2) Sunday's are not included in the 40 days of prayer, due to every Sunday in the Christian faith is a day of celebration.

Why the #40 is significant in the Bible.

  1. The flood it rained forty days -Noah
  2. Moses stayed on Mount Sinai forty days (Ex 24:18)
  3. Jonah gave the people of Ninevah forty days to repent (Jon 3:4)
  4. Jesus, before starting his ministry, spent forty days in the desert in prayer and fasting.(Matt 4:2)
