What's in The News Today

Space shuttle Endeavour touches down this morning and it was its last mission. The shuttle landed at Kennedy Space Center at 2:15  a.m. Wednesday morning. This was the Endeavour's 25th mission. The shuttle was in space for sixteen days and this was its final flight. This doesn't mean that the United States will stop exploring space, but on the contrary will continue with better and modern spaceships.

Pilots are being targeted with lasers and the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) wants to put and end to it. Reports of 2,836 laser pointing this year alone this number double from the previous year. Shining a laser into the cockpit is quite a serious issue it can cause the pilot to go blind for a short period of time, in which can affect landing or take off and put all passengers at risk. The maximum penalty the
FAA can impose is $11,000. Los Angeles airport had 102 laser occurrences the highest in the country.

Can your cell phone cause brain cancer?  Cell phones have not been around long enough to prove that it can actually cause brain cancer, but it does have radiation. The radiation levels that are in a cell phone have been compared to a low frequency microwave. Here are a few steps that you can use to lessen the risk of being exposed to the radiation.

  1. wear your ear piece
  2. use your Bluetooth, but not all the time this too can expose you to radiation
  3. use the speaker
  4. hold cell phone two inches from head
  5. text instead
  6. don't keep it in your pocket Blackberry states 'to keep in 0.98 inch from the body'
