What is the 4th of July

The holiday became a federal holiday on 1941 in the United States. Independence Day goes back to the 18th century and the American Revolution (1775-1783). The United States one their freedom from Great Britain in June 1776 with the 13 colonies. On July 2nd, the Continental Congress voted for independence and on July 4th the Declaration of Independence was drafted by Thomas Jefferson. Since 1776, to the current date July 4th has been celebrated as Independence from Britain with fireworks, parades and concerts to informal family gatherings and barbecues.
