The History of Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving began in November 1621 with the Pilgrims and Wampanoag Indians. They gathered  at Plymouth, Mass. The meal was celebrated due, to the "Autumn Harvest" that the Wampanoag Indians taught the Pilgrims how to grow their own crops. The Native Americans brought an offering of five deers. The celebration lasted
3 days. The food also consisted of seafood where there is abundant being the proximity of the shore in New England. Potatoes were not part of the original tradition instead turnups and groundnuts were eaten. Pumpkin was part of the celebration they would hollow out pumpkins and fill it with milk, honey and spices.  Fruits such as Cranberries, blueberries, plums, grapes, gooseberries and raspberries were native to the area and were part of the first Thanksgiving. http://www.history.com/topics/first-thanksgiving-meal
