What's in The News Today

FDA will start testing pet foods for Salmonella. Humans handling pet food with Salmonella may put them at risk. Many pet-food retailers gave samples to the FDA ( The Food and Drug Administration) for testing: PetSmart. Petco, Costco, Walmart and Target. Salmonella can cause diarrhea, fever, cramps and in severe cases the person is hospitalized.

Oakland, California anti-Wall Street protesters were hospitalized and several police officers were injured. A numerous amount of masked vandals created havoc on the streets of Oakland, after a peaceful day of demonstrations. The vandals shattered windows, set fires and plastered graffiti on businesses. The police dispersed tear gas and flash-bang grenades and it ended in a mass of arrests.

A UCR student in California was diagnosed with tuberculosis. The student attends the University of California in Riverside. The student tested positive for TB. The student was placed in an off-campus apartment, but was living amongst other students at residence hall. The student will not be able to attend classes until they are cleared of the disease, which can take up to 6 weeks. The student had symptoms the starting of the semester.
