What's in The News Today

Smoked salmon is recalled, due to Listeria. Vita Classic Premium Sliced Smoked Atlantic Nova Salmon has been contaminated with Listeria bacteria, which can be fatal to the young, elderly and immune compromised people. The company recalled 8,088 packages. The salmon was sold throughout the country.

Hurricane Irene has been downsized to a Category 1. New York City has been urged to evacuate and 370,000 city residents are under orders to leave their homes that are in the low-lying areas. New York transit will close mass transit at noon today. This will leave 8.5 million people that travel the transit system stranded. The storm is hitting North Carolina this morning and will arrive in New York Saturday night and New England on Sunday. Airlines canceled 7,000 flights and New York airports will be closed for incoming flights starting at noon today.
