What's in The News Today

Will Gadhafi  resort to terrorism and possibly use mustard gas now that he is losing the battle? Gadhafi has been making mustard gas in his factory since the 80's. Gadhafi was behind the blowing up of the Pan Am flight 103 killing 270 people and 189 Americans in Scotland. He is also blamed for the bombing of a German Disco in 1986 that killed two American Soldiers (Forer, 2011).  The U.S. is monitoring the stock pile of mustard gas that Libya has in its possession. Libya still contains tons of mustard gas, but the ammunition to launch the mustard gas has been destroyed (Khan, 2011). Mustard gas is a chemical that attacks the eyes and skin. It causes blisters and when it is inhaled it damages the lungs and other organs. It does not create immediate symptoms it takes up to six hours after exposure. It is not always fatal and increases the risk of cancers and birth defects. The gas is yellow and smells like mustard and at times garlic, horseradish and apples. It becomes a liquid at room temperature. This gas has been around since WWI (Council on Foreign Relations, 2008).

Japan has another set back form the third reactor after a mysterious gray cloud of smoke appeared above the reactor. The seven emergency workers had to evacuate.  High voltage power has been connected to the three reactors. Water from the reactors has leak into the ocean.  Tap water, produce, canola and seafood have been tainted with high radiation levels (abcNews). The cooling system in the reactors, nine days before the earthquake did not pass inspection (Yamaguchi, 2011).

The U.S. gets 2% of its seafood from Japan and 4% of all food such as processed food. This also means sushi.
