What's in The News Today

Insurance Institute For Highway Safety petitions for new standards involving big rigs. The underride guards on tractor-trailers have been reported to have failed in low speed crashes. The IIHS is petitioning for the federal government to mandate stronger underride guards that stay in place during a crash. In "2009, 70% of 3163 people died after crashing into the back of a large truck." Even though a car may receive a top safety pick if it hits the back of a truck and underride guard fails the likely hood of a person walking away from a low speed crash is not favorable.
