What's in The News Today

A virus similar to the bird virus has killed seals in New England. Since September 2, 162 seals were found dead from Massachusetts to Maine. It was determined after testing that they died from a bacterial pneumonia by an influenza virus known as H3N8. There is a low risk that it can be transmitted to humans. This virus has been transmitted to horses and dogs and they usually recover. "Concerns about why the virus jumped specie and the reason is important" stated Catherine Brown, State Public Health Veterinarian.

A missing Missouri college student left behind a disturbing message to her sister. Aisha Khan a 19- year-old who attends the University of Kansas was "studying outdoors on a picnic table when a man who was drunk started to harass her" that was the messages she left on her sister's voicemail. She also stated that  "he tried to kiss her, and she slapped him, and she said he smelled really bad." She ordered her sister to pick up the phone and she was freaked out at this point. Shortly after the message her sister Faiza tried to call Aisha, but she didn't pick up her cell phone. Faiza rushed to the campus where her sister was studying and found Aisha's cell phone, backpack and other items. Aisha was married earlier this year and her husband is not a suspect. FBI agents and the police are searching for her on foot and horseback. The Khan family is offering an $10,000 reward for any information regarding Aisha's disappearance.
